Every year in June, the National Astronomical Observatory (NAO) holds an open day for public visits. This year, the Open day is on 8 June dedicated to the 145 years anniversary of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

From 10 AM til 5PM the largest functioning telescope in Southeastern Europe is open for public visits. Astronomers from the Institute of Astronomy and NAO will show the telescope construction, will talk about their work with it, will give more information about interesting astronomical objects and events and will tell you how astronomical observations help us expand our knowledge on planets, comets, stars, galaxies and the Universe.

Apart from getting acquainted with the contemporary techniques for studying the night sky, visitors are welcome to take a different look at the heavens above. 8 June is also the official holiday of the small chapel situated directly next-doors to the telescope dome entrance.
